America

(Wait wait wait.

The Alamo..

Wasn’t USA vs Mexico.

It was Mexico vs the Republic of Texas.

Gosh.)

Japan also had a chance to surrender before we nuked them. America was like, “dude… we got these devastating bombs that will seriously fuck you up. Just surrender”.

Japan was like, “bring it”

Excuse me, but let’s not forget that the United States put sanctions on Japan, which is what led to the tension in the first place. Not that Hirohito was a good person or anything, but it’s important to recognize that we were involved in the events that ultimately led up to the bombings.

Japan sent a cable through Russia saying they’d surrender on the single condition that they could keep the emperor. We nuked them because we were belligerent and wanted unconditional surrender. (Then we let them keep the emperor anyway.)

Japan misinterpreted our message when we told them they could keep the emperor. They thought that our moving away from unconditional surrender was a sign of our weakness and they thought they could win if they fought it out. Then we nuked em.
